You want to start Master your tracks but you don't want to invest a lot of money ?

You are in the right place, the costs related to the purchase of Plugins being very important, the use of free plugins is very useful to start those first tracks and experiment a musical universe. But which free plugins are worth trying?

I have tested numerous free plugins and made a list of the 10 Best free plugins to master your track in 2022.

1) Stereo touch voxengo

This is a plugin that works very well when you have a mono source sound and you want to make it more stereo.

It is possible to add as much delay as you want. It is also possible to activate a low and high pass filter. This is really handy especially if the sound is a bit more bassy. This filter will allow you to turn them down to get a better sound.

Something to remember if you are using the stereo touch for a mono signal make sure that the mono output is on a stereo channel.

2) Magic Dice - Baby Audio

It is composed of the minimum sets of parameters. There are only 2 parameters. The random button and also the mix level, which will mix a dry signal with a completely wet signal. For my part, I use Magic Dice on my FX channel track

So that’s the thing with this plugin, you can only randomize all those types of sounds like delays, reverbs, and modulation. The combination that it produces is endless. It makes this plug-in free one and it’s very to work with.

3) Deelay - Integraudio

It’s a regular delay parameter like the midi seconds. The tape and distortion knobs are very nice. When you put your mouse on the knob you have a description down below of what this parameters are doing. It’s really nice to understand the knob.

You can do a lot of sound design stuff with this plugin. It’s a very cool Plugin.

4) FRESH AIR - Slate Digital

This is a very cool plugin. This one is based on analog exciters and will add some shine and brilliance to your sound. This plugin can be used in mastering, on the mix bus even on a single track if you want to. You don’t need to add a lot to shine your mixes and the sound is very nice.

5) BUSTERse

It’s a solid state bus compressor which is going to give you the SSL bus compressor vibe. Where we have the threshold, make-up, gain, attack, and release. Il y a aussi un auto realese. There’s a mix knob right here which balances the dry sound, the dry signal with the wet signal. When the turbo mode is activated the compressor will affect the full frequency range of the incoming signal.

It does a very good job for a free plugin. If you don’t have a stereo bus compressor that you work with already, that can be a very good option before investing into a third-party plugin.

6) Melda productions - MEqualize

It’s a great free equalizer. There are a lot of advanced controls and presets that allow you to save time.

One thing I’d like to point out as well is the saturation control which is excellent.

7) TUBA - Analog Obsession

TUBA is an emulated preamplifier that works well with subtle settings on a master. It adds mild compression and harmonic distortion, in other word, saturation to the signal. I recommend using Low Gain,Line input setting and subtly increasing the gain until you find just the right amount.

The low and high shelves are a little too aggressive for mastering but maybe you could get away with the +3Db high shelf.

8) Youlean Loudness Meter

Although it’s been around for a couple of years, the YouLean loudness meter is still the best free LUFS and other metric measurement tools available. As you can see, it offers a great interface and the ability to measure short-term LUFS,integrated LUFS,true peaks, and more. The monitoring can be mono, stereo, or various surround configurations and the display can be altered, and even exported as png or pdf with various resolutions.

If you’re a mastering engineer, you may want to use a loudness meter to make sure your tracks aren’t louder or quieter than other professional songs.

9) Loudmax - Thomas Mundt

I found that loudmax controlled the signal in a very enjoyable and clean way. Furthermore, the inner sample peak detection was more accurate than most plug-ins that i came across. When reading the plugins threshold an automatic make-up gain function is enabled this increases the more that you reduce the threshold. Also you could use this plugin as last one in your chain.

10) Limiter n°6- Vladislav Goncharov

I’m always looking for ways to improve my mixes, and I’m really excited about Vladislav Goncharov limiter. I’m a big fan of his other compressor plug-in. It has some pretty cool features that might take me awhile to get used to, but nothing that a good manual won’t be able to solve.
